How can Professional Counseling help me?
There are many ways that Professional Counseling can help. The therapeutic alliance is different from any other relationship. In therapy, we can slow things down and work together, focusing solely on issues that are causing you distress. Some of the results of psychotherapy are a reduction or elimination of unwanted symptoms, a better understanding of yourself, being more productive in life, and finding greater satisfaction in relationships.
Marriage Counseling or Couples Therapy can help you reduce conflict and create a deeper emotional bond.
What’s the difference between a Clinical Mental Health Counselor, a Psychiatrist, a Social Worker, and a Psychologist?
The main difference is the area of focus. Clinical Mental Health Counselors focus on achieving and maintaining good mental health and work with client strengths to achieve this. Psychiatrists are medical doctors who have usually completed a residency in psychiatry. Their niche is prescribing psychotropic drugs. Social Workers are trained in case management skills and can assist individuals with basic needs such as food and shelter. In practice, many Social Workers do counseling and help individuals with personal issues. However, Mental Health Counselors get much more training in this area. Of all the mental health professions, Psychologists are the best trained in conducting research.
How do I know if I really need therapy?
Everyone has times when life can feel overwhelming. While you may be getting along okay, there’s nothing wrong with seeking out extra help when you need it. Deciding to enter therapy can be scary, but also demonstrates great courage. In fact, counseling works best with those who recognize that their current situation can be improved.
What about confidentiality?
